I just went on Amazon.com, found the record and listened to
several of the tracks. Very beautifully played, but either the
2nd clarinet has a slow tongue, or else he was told to play the
third variation alberti bass by slurring it all. I shouldn't
complain. I can't play that part as written, and damn few
clarinet players can.

Yes, the Berlin Phil Wind Ensemble have only recently released
their CD
of K361 together with K375 on EMI 3434242. The review in the
May 06
Gramophone Mag (UK) rates it very highly giving it top
recommendation.

I'm not sure what the current leadership of the Berlin Phil says
but I hope they agree. However, the party with whom I
communicated voiced a very much different opinion. Has the Berlin
Phil recorded the work??

Let me tell you what the footnote says on that page of the
performance parts and the conductor's score, both in German and
in English:

"Vi-de: Ein von Mozart nicht eindeutig geschriebenes
prima-volta-Zeichen über- und unterhalb T. 111 des Autographs
deutet darauf hin, daß dieser Takt möglicher-weise zu
überspringen ist."

This is followed by the English translation:

"Vi-de: The ambiguous prima volta symbol written by Mozart above
and below m. 111 indicates almost certainly that this measure is
to be omitted."

When I wrote that note, I was a little concerned that they might
not go for something as strong as that, but they put it down
exactly as I wrote it, though I sense that the German is not as
forceful as the English. And, of course, some very intelligent
people see that ambiguous prima volta as saying something else
entirely.
