What are these 'Squidworth impersonations'? I'm obviously missing some
important part of my cultural heritage. It seems to be some sort of cartoon
character...?

I've been going to a free improv workshop in London the last couple of
weeks, and, although this form of playing is not entirely new to me, I find
that the struggle to discover unusual sounds that I can make with the
clarinet forces me to try all manner of what I am guessing may be
'Squidworth impersonations'. Last week, incidentally, there were 3
clarinettists out of 10 musicians and at one point we played as a trio of
Squidworths.

Silly question here --

I have four children of my own (12, 10, 8, and 6) and many young students
(about 50 in all) and they ask me to perform "Squidworth impersonations".
Does anyone else do these? They're really funny... It's also fun to ask
student who play instruments to try it; they're surprised to see that it is
more difficult to play poorly on purpose once their proper playing posture
and technique is in place. :) Of course, I'd never let this be a part of
their lesson plans!!! It's just for fun!
