This is for Dan Leeson and for anyone else who wants to read this:

Dan:

A few years ago, I asked about a Richard Strauss Concerto with a Bassoon and
a Clarinet, in which is on a story line about a bear (bassoon) and a girl
(clarinet).

You were kind enough to sent the list a article you wrote about the
bassoonist, who Richard Strauss wrote the Bassoon part for.

I have been emailing a email friend about Classical Music and he told me
about his Dad. He sent me this webpage about his Dad.
http://www.hardnewscafe.usu.edu/archive/feb2006/021406_wasserman.html

When you read this, you will see, he too, came to America, like the bassoon
player, due to the war.

I told Paul about the story you wrote and I sent him a link to it. He did
sent it to his Dad. I was worried that it might upset his father, bringing
back memories of such a terrible time. And what it did to him and his
family. He said his Dad would be fine with it. His Dad was overjoyed with
the story, as this is what he wrote to his son:

Paul, this letter almost made me cry-as long as there still exist people
like this man, our civilization might yet survive. Who is the person who
sent you the letter? I would love to send him a thank-you letter. Thanks,
Paul!

Paul said I could email him, as I his Dad owes me no thank you for sending
his Dad the story. We owe his Dad a thank you and a apology for what
society did to him and others. But he did go on to have a rewarding career
in teaching Kids music, giving up law. Not many fields, do you get that
kind of satisfaction.

Anyway, my question to you Dan, do you have any idea who the bassoonist and
the conductor, who did not want to fire the Jews from the Vienna
Philharmonic was, as in the story from 1995, you did not remember the names.

If you do, I really appreciate you letting me know.

And I thank you for letting us know that wonderful story.

Both of these stories should be told to the world, either in book or movie,
as we can not forget stories like this. And never let anything like this
happen again, to anybody.

Mike Marmer
