To put another log on the fire,

Sometimes I do this:

In time (at slower tempi), play the first note; then first and second note;
then first, second and third note, and so on.
Next, play the last note, last two notes, last three notes and so on.

You can also do this from the middle out as well; pick the middle and add
one more on each side every time through. In fact, you can do this from
every note in a phrase.

(also backwards can be, as Ann mentions).

Clearly this takes a lot of time and as Ann said, there are probably one or
two places that are prone to tripping. If you can identify them, you can
concentrate this technique on those areas.

Somehow, though, I suspect anxiety, rather than facility. Maybe paying more
attention to the air might be helpful. As time gets shorter, simpler
approaches are more effective.

M.

Gillian,

Premiere Rhapsody is such wonderful music!! Debussy calls for flowing lines,
abrupt changes of mood, reflective thoughts, darts of action-- light on
water, goldfish in a pond. Or in a word, rhapsodic...
