Peter Hadcock recommends a good practice technique in his book "The Working
Clarinetist," called "five and one." You practice the passage at a metronome
setting so slow that you can easily play it correctly. Do this five times. Then
move the metronome setting up three clicks (e.g. 12 b.p.m.) and play the
passage once. Move the setting back two clicks (e.g. 8 b.p.m.) and play
the passage five times. Keep going three clicks forward for one iteration
and two clicks back for five iterations.

Was it Mitchell Lurie who said "It's never too late to practice slowly"?
