YOu will have to get used to reading bass clef one octave
misplaced. The purpose of doing that is to place the notes
within the five line stave as much as possible. The low C, for
example, is two lines below the staff in the bass clef, as
opposed to a whole bunch of lines below the staff in the treble
clef.

It is a convention that is already in place, and one that you
will have to get used to. Sometimes, the French editions do it
differently, so an orchestral clarinetists has to read bass clef
several different ways.

Dear List
I know that this is a stupid question but here goes:
I just purchased an Urtext version of K622 (G.Henle Verlag) with
the basset
clarinet part. There are portions of it in bass clef (perhaps
understandible)
but why are these written 1 octave lower than they sound with
leger lines
below the bass clef ? (makes it a little harder to read
also).There are very
interesting background notes accompanying the music but no
explanation re
this .
