It's been suggested to me that I am being unfair to Pamela Weston,
because her edition does after all provide a 'clean' version of the
clarinet part in the piano score, and goes beyond other editions in
giving the original version of the piano part there too.

So, I want to acknowledge that it does do that.

Unfortunately, this means that the piano score is unworkable in
performance, as you have to turn a page every few seconds; and
furthermore, you have to play off a clarinet part that has her dynamic
(and other) revisions.

The other thing I should say in her defence is that Pamela Weston's
revisions are not as extensive as other revisions. But they are
different in kind from Baermann's, because as I said before, Baermann
was writing into another sort of context. A modern edition should do
better -- as Henle does.

Eric Simon's editions, which have been mentioned here, *are* clean.=20
But as far as I know they are no longer available. Am I wrong?

Tony
