Artie Shaw did, indeed, play a Conn at first. He switched to Selmer, then
went to Buffet at the end of his career.

His successor, Dick Johnson, leader of the present-day Artie Shaw Orchestra,
uses a Selmer Recital, and a vintage B-T. His mouthpiece is, I believe, a
new Selmer H. However, Dick may be using a new Herb Blayman. I'll call him
up!

Dick Johnson was my jazz teacher in 1959-60, when I was at Berklee. We have
been friends ever since. Right now, I am his trusted friend, subbing for
him when needed! BUT--not as leader of the orchestra! I play his local
gigs when he is on the road! I have also done some hit-and-runs with the
band, on tenor. Enjoyable!
