Deborah,
Someone told you regarding the Festival, "it does not
project well in an orchestra, that they have a small
shape in sound and have a clear limit as to how much
air that you can put in them."

I'm not a pro either, but I listen to what folks say
about clarinets and models, and this sounds like
someone being dogmatic. There's a lot of that...:)
You're interested in whether there is a common wisdom
about Festivals? I don't think there's this consensus.
In fact I've never heard this said. Have you
searched about them in the List and the Bulletin Board
Archives?

As I write the above, I wonder if anyone can comment
on the overall acoustic, the bore design?

On this list, lots of people will tell you to try one
for yourself and see what you experience.

I have a Festival Bb and an A. When I need to, I
think I project as well as other amateurs I play with
who have various instruments, including R13s. And I
believe that is simply my concept of how to sound, not
my instrument

Francois Klok told me once that the Festival has more
undercutting and is more "flexible" than the R13....
whatever that means. And obviously the Festival has
slightly different tuning compromises; you can see the
different register vent placement.

Wayne
