Joe: my patents involving software are connected with use of genetic
algorithms to analyse X-ray scattering data, and X-ray diffraction imaging.
US Patents No. 6,192,103 and 6,782,076 plus some dependent patents in other
countries.

You can't patent software ideas or algorithms; you patent products. Anyone
can use the algorithms that we do, for their own research; they are
published in the patent and in the scientific literature, and are public
domain. That's about 0.1 % of the code in the products. The rest of it is
what we paid very good money to develop, and if competitors introduce
products using the same principles we will go for them :-).

Anyway this is a bit off topic ... hope to meet up with you sometime re
basset horns! Nearby stations are Coventry, Warwick and Leamington Spa, all
with connections to Birmingham.

Cheers, Keith Bowen
