The child's self image would have suffered under the previous systems also.
It is just as harmful to be ignored or told that they can't learn or that
they are stupid and be pushed off into a corner. No matter what system is
implemented people with these special needs will need special training. If
it is not available, it's not going to matter what system the school uses if
such resources are not available.
