Good point Karl, but you might want to take into account how long ago was
the horn manufactured! How long has it sat in the warehouse? How long at the
distributor? Under what conditions? In what part of the country?

Also, some pieces of wood are just more porous, some less..

I don't think there can be any ONE rule.

My rule? If the wood looks really dry, oil it. If not.......don't!!!!
