We had the pleasure of hearing Julian Bliss last Tuesday April 4th at the
Stadt Casino, Basel, Switzerand.

He played the Rossini Introduction, Theme and Variations and the Orchestra
version of the Weber quintett, accompanied by the Zürcher Kammerorchester,
conducted by Marcus Creed.

He has extraordinary technique, and wonderful tone. His interpretation of
the Weber at times sounded like Sabine Meyer. Not surprising since he
studies with her. One can't help wondering if he is so good now, what will
he be like when he is older and more mature.

I couldn't see his clarinet very clearly but the barrel and the bell looked
to be the ones from 'Morales Backun' as advertised in The Clarinet. The
clarinet itself had gold (presumabley plated) keys.

Greetings from Switzerland

Benedict
