Subj: [kl] Good News/Bad News regarding Sibelius' "Swan of Tounela"
Date: Thu, 06 Apr 2006 06:41:49 -0400

Hi All

The Good News is that I'm playing the "Swan of Tounela" with the Farmington
(CT) Valley Symphony Orch. this Sunday at Carnegie Hall, as part of a series
of civic orchestra concerts there. This is a 10 minute work that features
English horn, depicting the mythological bird that carried Finnish souls to
the underworld as it swam on a deep black lake. Quite a wonderful and
provocative piece. Given how well last night's rehearsal and our
performance in Hartford on March 4 went, it will be a more than decent
performance.

Also on the program are the Brahms "Tragic Overture" and the third movement,
"Dialogue of the Wind and Sea", from Debussy's "La Mer".

The Bad News is that the concert is at 830 pm and that another ensemble
plays before us. So it's not an early night for me or for you.

See ya all there,

Robert Howe
