How about another suggestion for the humistats!
The company sells a small one, half the size of lipstick and a larger
one about the size of a hockey puck. I use the larger one (plus the
small hydrometer they sell) in large (shoe box size) tupperwear type
containesr for the long term storage of my reeds. I have four
containers, one for tube cane, one for all saxophone reeds, one for
clarinet reed brands I do not use that often and the fourth for the
reeds I regularly play on.
I keep my reed cases in the containers also, and have to remember to get
them out for gigs! I keep the containers at 40-50% humidity.
The only warning is ALWAYS use fresh clean water to fill either size of
the humidistats. I made the mistake of filling them up from my 1-2 day
old reed water and the bacteria had a field day in the humidistat's
sponges.
