The recommendation was to immerse the tip (not the entire reed) in
boiling water for 1 second in order to reduce the stiffness by 1/4 unit.
After 24 hours, the reed recovers some but not all of its original
stiffness.

When I used Legere for a while (a number of years ago, I don't know
about current production) and I wanted to drop more than 1/4, I tried
dipping a reed up to the top of the cut for 3 seconds. The strength
dropped in the neighborhood of 1/2 unit (subjective opinion) and the
next day it had recovered a small-but-noticeable amount.
