My deepest thanks to everyone's thoughts and prayers about my
mom. Tomorrow is the burial and the Shiva lasts for 7 days. Until
the end of that I will be unable to thank anyone for their thoughts,
so I do it in advance.

As an aside, I watched my mom (who had been a strong, independent
person) until the very end, kissed her forehead and kept telling her
I loved her and forgave her for anything that might have hurt her
chances at heaven's gate. I watched as she was prepared for the ride
to the morgue, and kept petting her head through the body bag on the
trip to the morgue. I am not looking forward to tomorrow, but it is
something I must do. As I look at the pictures I took of her, I see
that even if the pneumonia had gotten better, her brain was so far
gone with the Alzheimer's that there would have been no quality of
life. She had a feeding tube in the stomach, lost the ability to
walk (or even move), talk, smile, and swallow. It is for this reason
I signed a DNR. I believe that the brain parts responsible for
respiration were finally affected, perhaps by swelling caused by the
Alzheimer's. All I know is that I was glad I was there- I was there
for her every day. I think I will miss that now too. But nothing
can fill the hole I am feeling at her passing.

Fred
