Ted Casher here again--to George Galway.

Yes, it is the same Dick Johnson who plays alto sax. He is a monster player
on that instrument as well.

I was privileged to study with him in 1959-61, and he taught me 57% of
everything I know!

I am also his perennial sub when he is out on the road with the Artie Shaw
band.

Whatever axe he is playing at the moment, he always manages to play
something astounding during the course of a gig!

The Artie Shaw Orchestra has just recorded a CD of new arrangements by Bob
Freedman, who used to play great sax and clarinet before he concentrated on
piano and arranging. They recorded it in New Jersey, at Tony Bennett's
studio. I am anxiously awaiting its release.

Dick, and his lifelong friend, trumpeter Lou Columbo, have recorded a double
album---a compilation. There are recordings from many different sources.
Dick plays an astounding clarinet duo w/Dave McKenna, recorded live in
concert. The album is called "Dick Johnson, Artie's Choice, and The
Naturals."

You can get it online at CD BABY.

Enjoy----TC
