GBK's extremely aggressive monitoring of the bulletin board is why I don't
participate there more often. I do check the BB at least once a week to
look for interesting threads, and sometimes I leave a message and then
check back on that thread while it's active. Often, however, he's already
cut off an interesting thread before I get there. It especially annoys me
when he closes a thread just because he thinks it's gone on long enough,
even though it's clearly on-topic. My next move is generally "Log Out"
when I find a thread like that.

Yes. I don't mind if a forum allows only on-topic messages (as long as the
moderator enforces the dictum the same for everybody), and I have no
problem with forbidding and deleting malicious or spiteful messages. GBK
goes a lot farther than that, however--and imho, closing an entire thread
because one or two people behave badly is a disservice to the rest of the
participants.

Same here! That's *why* I log out, rather than comment, when I discover
that GBK has cut off yet another interesting thread....

Of the 2 (3 now, but one is very recent and pretty silent - great guy
though!) moderators, I find GBK to be the most fair and reasonable.
btw - nowhere in the signup is there any mention at all about it being
monitored. Only if somebody bothers to read the rules does one find out that
it is in fact
actively monitored.

I know I didn't agree to that when I originally signed up for it. It ought
to be disclosed as part of the signup process! Ya know, check *here* if you
agree to the terms of the board (like many boards are).]

Death threats or promissing to break somebody's reed should be what they
look for, not the schoolmarmy crap that hassles folks, cause it's basically
the same conversation constantly anyway.
