And let me add to Doug Potter's comments that it is a weird state
of affairs when the clarinet players don't know that a C clarinet
exists. Gary's comment about conductor's and their attitude is
quite true, but I have also played with conductors who had no
idea that there was a C instrument in the clarinet family.

Don't say this too loud. The lack of the correct clarinet called
for in
the score has been used by some conductors as cause for
dismissal.
