Frank Foster plays alto clarinet on the Elvin Jones recording "Merry
Go-Round March", Gary Foster on I believe a Clare Fischer recording of
"Pensativa", probably a Revelation LP, and Joe Lovano has a number of
recordings on the instrument, though I can't remember which ones now-one is
with John Scofield; he also did a nice unaccompanied solo on it as part of
a set at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco, for the SF Jazz Festival some
years ago. There's also a rather interesting improvisational CD of duet,
alto clarinet and cello; I think the cellist is Fred Lonberg-Holm, but I'm
sorry to say that I can't remember who the alto clarinetist is. Also, I
seem to remember seeing a telecast of Boulez conducting Stravinsky's
"Symphonies of Wind Instruments" and it looked there was an alto clarinet
in the orchestra, but it may have been a basset horn. I'm sure someone on
the list knows the particulars of this...db
