As a current alto clarinet player within the Border
Concert band (England), the parts are always
interesting. Sometimes you are playing in unison with
the second or third clarinets, at others with the
saxes or the trombones or the bass clarinet.
Occasionally an arranger gives you a part for
yourself. Where an alto part does not exist, I can
either play the Eb clarinet part an octave down or an
Eb horn part or double the alto sax parts. As an
amateur clarinettist there is always something of
interest to do, even if it is counting the rests
!!#??!!
