You mean a key played with the right hand pinkie, right? If so, yes, that
is sprung by a needle spring which is mounted through the post and hooks
onto a little knob brazed onto the key rod. It is entirely possible that
the joint was weak (it happens), and, since it was holding when it left the
factory, it is hard to blame them for missing the problem. It does,
however, clearly qualify as a manufacturing defect, covered by
warrantee. The fix is not difficult, and should be doable so as to be
invisible or nearly so.
