Subj: [kl] Copland Clarinet Concerto Arrangement

Hello Everyone

I am posting a message from Dr. Derek Parsons, professor of piano at
Furman University. He has done an arrangement of the Copland Clarinet
Concerto for clarinet 2 pianos and bass. I had the pleasure of reading
this arrangement with him a few years ago and it is FANTASTIC! I, for
one, would love to be able to program this work in a recital situation
as would many of my students. I am sure everyone on this list realizes
that the current piano reduction leaves a significant portion of
orchestration out. This arrangement allows for all parts in the
orchestra version to be heard. Of course, the clarinet part remains
the same. Please send him your support so he can again begin this
process with the publisher.
Sincerely,
Julia Heinen
Professor of Clarinet, California State University, Northridge

Here is the message from Dr. Parsons.

Several years ago I received authorization from Frank Korach at Boosey
and
Hawkes to write an arrangement of the Copland Concerto, with
accompaniment
scored for two pianos and string bass. This arrangement was done as an
academic exercise, not to be performed or distributed. Since that
time, I
have received hundreds of emails indicating the importance of such an
arrangement to the clarinet community, since this would much more
closely
resemble the original intent of the piece. Also, performers and
teachers
have been asking over the years when my arrangement would be available.

I have resubmitted my arrangement to Boosey and Hawkes for their review,
and I would like to solicit from the general clarinet community any
interest that I can accumulate to support my proposal. A simple email
indicating your personal interest in such an arrangement, as well as
your
professional opinion as to whether this arrangement would be widely
utilized in performance or academic settings.

If you are interested, please sent your emails to me at
dparsons@-----. The more response I get, the better the chance
that
this would be ultimately published. I will compile these emails and
send
to Frank Korach as soon as I get a clear picture of whether my
arrangement
would be of use to the clarinet community.

Please contact me with any questions, and thank you for your time. As
well, please forward this to anyone who might be interestedd.
