Subj: [kl] Barrel Rings -- where to buy (purchase] them?
Date: Sat, 11 Mar 2006 23:28:50 -0500

Does anyone have a source for obtaining barrel or other types of socket and
bell rings?

I ask becasue I recently got a Chadash Barrel and neither of the rings were
attached. I tried paper and even teflon tape but neither of them do what
the shrinking action of a tapered die and arbor press do, and when proper
shrunk and tapped onto the Barrel Socket Ring Tenon the tight fit is meant
to reinforce the opening of the socket and prevent it from cracking or
worse, chipping.

I got all this, a nifty tool for shrinking the rings, and a bag of chips
from Ferrees Tools, and Gary Ferree gave my great instructions on how to use
the tool, nevertheless I blubbed the first attempt and I need to order or
get a replacement barrel ring for the Mouthpiece end (small end) of the
Barrel.

If anyone knows of a source for barrel rings I love to know, I've written to
Guy Chadash but he has yet to respond, and maybe when I talk to Francois
Kloc on Monday he'll be able to help.

But I am just looking for an on-line supply source for stuff like joint and
bell rings, and even new keys to replace broken ones.

I am new to the magic of Clarinet repair, but I want to do to it right, and
I want to start by working on my own equipment, then I have no one else to
blame for mistakes.

Duck-billed pliers are the best!
