Lori, and everyone,
People will have opinions about which pads are
better. And I completely respect opinions of people
like Fred who like a particular pad, and give good
reasons for their recommendation; I will remember the
name Straubinger. (There are discussions of pads on
the Bulletin Board. Here is one thread in which one
person half way through summarizes differences in
pads:

But I've never heard someone suggest that Buffet
Gortex pads were inferior. Buffet uses them on their
best clarinets? Buffet does not normally use them on
R-13's; are you sure that's what you have? But even
then the bladder pads on a normal R-13 should be
pretty good. I don't think you need assume that your
pads must be changed.
