The instrument plays great. The bridge key needs slight adjustment. The
fork and ring key height are high as compared to my older R-13. The throat
A key has a higher arch to it as well compared to the older R-13. Would
probably have these adjusted down for comfort and quicker response. High B
& C is on the sharp side however this is common to keep the 12th from being
flat. I will see if there is anything that can be done to high B & C without
impacting anything else.

I don't want to have adjustments made to the clarinet if it's going to be a
moving target with Gortex pads. I just wanted to know if it's beneficial to
repad the instrument to make it more stable?

I've already contacted a reputable repair person Gerry Evoniuk from Desert
Winds in AZ to see what he would recommend. Should hear from him today.

Thank you.

How does the instrument play NOW?

Have you spoken to a reputable repairer who has had a chance to play the
instrument?

Aren't these more the places to start?

Matthew

Subject: [kl] overhaul question - new R-13

Hello,

I just purchased a new Buffet R-13 Bb and wanted to know if I should
have it
re-padded with better quality pads? Pretty much an overhaul without the
need for polishing and buffing the keys.

The R-13s come from the factory with Gortex synthetic pads which I have
been
told is not of the best quality. This could cause instability with the
instrument as pads not sealing properly, intonation problems, etc.

If you think I should re-pad it now, then what type of pad would you
recommend and why? The best double-bladder pads everywhere? Cork on
the
upper joint and double-bladder pads everywhere else? Or Valentino pads
everywhere? Lots of opinions I'm sure as what to use, eh?

Thank you in advance for your comments. Lori
