The mail client is a piece of software you use to read and compose email
- it runs on your computer or on a specialized mail client server
(Webmail, for instance) somewhere.
To the end user the mail server does essentially 2 things (I'm
simplifying just a bit ... things can get a bit more dicey ...)
1) it receives mail composed by an authorized mail client and routes it
to another mail server
2) it sends mail it has received destined for you via 1) to your email
client
Your email client does the presentation and allows you to compose.
