Any discussion of instrumental quality is always going to lean
towards the owner's preference. Besides, there are no standards
as to "best" of instruments. We both have superior basset horns,
perhaps the very finest made, but that is a judgemental
perspective.

They both play in tune, look exceptionally beautiful what with
golden keys and cocobola wood, and each does honor to any piece
in which it appears.

For those who do not know it, Keith's basset horn and mine are
both from the same block of cocobolo wood. They key arrangement
is slightly different in the lowest register, and his was made
immediately after mine.

As I have indicated on several occasions, I will put my basset
horn on ebay sometime towards the last part of this year, and in
any case, no later than early January 2007.

Now to my point: I am giving serious consideration to going to
the Okla clarinet festival to sell my books, and also to allow
anyone who wants to, an opportunity to play my basset horn (using
their standard B-flat clarinet mouthpiece).

Is this too corny an idea, or does it have some merit??? I don't
want to appear as if I am hawking something, but I did want to
give maximum opportunity to those who might be interested to have
a whack at the horn before it goes on sale. This basset horn has
been my friend for some time now (with a performance of the
Requiem in Monterat, CA this weekend), and I want to examine the
players who might be interested, eliminating those who don't
appreciate the finest basset horn ever made.
