Have her play by ear, imitating you. Teach her everything this way.
Eventually the reading will straighten itself out and you can teach her the written
notes.

We relay WAY too much on the written note.

I now start EVERY lesson with the student playing without music. You would
be amazed at the progress I am getting with this approach.

Another thing I do is have the students play with their eyes closed. When
they really clobber a passage, I have them look at it closely, then play it
EYES CLOSED. You'd be amazed at what can come out! Try it -- it works.
