I purchased and E11 a few years back when I was stuyding with Ted Oied of
the Detroit Symphony. He recommened it to me because it was affordable and
worth the money. I called Greg Smith and purchased one of his mouthpieces
and a chadash barrell. With this setup I have played in the Detroit Symphony
Civic Orchestra and the Dearborn Symphony. I played my first performance of
Symphonie Fantastique on it. I still perform on it now. Currently I am
working on my DMA at OSU, studying with James Pyne. Both James Pyne and Ted
Oien love the sound of the horn and find no issues with it. However, if I
had a R-13 Epher or a RC, I would be much happier. These models seem to have
a warmer sound with better ring. I find that the E-11, although a great
sounding horn, is not as superior to the other models listed. But since I am
not in a major orchestra yet and I am pursuing a performance degree, I have
no need to upgrade. Possibly when I am finished with school and I also start
to take more auditions, I will purchase an R-13 or the like. I too studied
with Ron de Kant at CCM. I would like to know the name of the person that
also mentioned CCM. I think the E-11 is great horn for its value but if you
need to wow someone on a major audition I would go with the other models
that are above it.

Best Wishes

Antoine Clark
