Maybe it'll help to consider that whatever you've paid so far wouldn't buy a
mediocre violin or viola, much less a cello, bass or even a bassoon or oboe.
And a pricey barrel or mouthpiece doesn't come close to what a good bow
costs for any string instrument. I hate looking at the prices of clarinets,
too, but we really have a much more affordable road to travel, even with the
added shop adjustments we need to pay for after delivery, than a serious
string player or even another woodwind player.

Doesn't make it less expensive, but maybe a little less painful.
