Hi Joseph,

Yes I think he does use period instruments (or replicas) on the =
recording - the recording as a whole is certainly an interesting =
collection of different pieces. The pianist is playing on a 1826 Conrad =
Graf Fortepiano so my thoughts are that he probably is but it just =
doesn't quite say for sure. =20

The source he quotes is from 'a photograph of Schumann's manuscript'.

Lorraine

I have just found hopefully a contact email address for Alan Hacker and =
have written and asked him this very question.

It sounds like a pretty good hint. :-) Still, I don't know the CD,
though I heard him perform the Hymn to the Sun itself once at a Purcell
Room concert. Does he use period instruments on the recording?

I'm sure someone on the list will know for sure. Whatever, does he give
much information about what the evidence is, references to scholarly
articles or whatever? Any such articles might well be by him, so it
might be worth checking out his scholarly publications to see if there's
something relevant.
