I heard an interesting recording from an LP at Uni today - it was on the
record 'Hymn to the Sun' by Alan Hacker 1977. He plays the 'Soirrestucke'
version. He mentions on the liner about the C clarinet being
used/"specified for the 2nd/3rd movements giving a new aural slant on the
material introduced by the melancholy A clarinet". I am not sure whether to
interpet this as what he is using on this recording or not. The recording
is certainly quite different to any other recordings I have heard so far.
Any comments?
