Looking for a new clarinet?

Try them, Try them, Try them. I purchased my "matched pair", whatever
that is supposed to mean, in 1964. The A and Bb are worlds apart in
resistance, (feel) and tone. I once had to borrow a friends clarinets,
A and Bb while mine where being overhauled. His "matched set" felt
exactly the same when played and had the same tone. They were wonderful
just in a different key.

At a convention I once watched a person try out 20 clarinets using his
own mouthpiece. When he played the 18th one there was something magical
going on. A glorious tone, big enough to fill up a concert hall yet
super controllable in the pianissimo level and super intonation on his
octave leaps, and a high register that came out like he had been playing
in this register all his life. This guy, in his 30's, was able to sound
better than anyone I had ever heard live or on a recording. I wished I
had the cash $$ in my wallet the time as I would have ripped the
clarinet out of his hand and made a purchase.
