Bill, and all interested parties

On the subject the case of rebuilding the socket or tenon of a clarinet
joint.

It seems to me that this is a form osorts is required, as well as inserted
reinforcing pins into the existing damaged wood to strengthen the bond with
the new replacement.

As rods are used to reinforce concrete, especially when it must be shaped
vertically, so too I think should the technician consider using no less than
5 vetical 3/32" pins to reinforce the tenon's rebuild. More, and a pin
diameter pushing the tolerance on the host wood would be optimal, but no
less than 5 to build the new tenon around.

Same theory would go for the out wall sockets if they were to become
damaged.

As a Clarinet is to many of us a treasured work of art , we must treat it as
such and use an Art Conservator's methodology to restoration, optimal
effectiveness, aestetics and practicality.

As a Bookbinder I appreciate these methodologies and hope to bring some of
them to the music (Clarinet) world.

Peace,

Rommel
