There certainly do exist orchestrations of the Weber for string
orchestra instead of quartet. I'm fairly sure Sabine Meyer performs a
version like this on one of her albums (other contents include the
orchestrated versions of the Mendelssohn Konzertstücke), and I think
Walter Grabner once performed it like this with a chamber orchestra he
is principal of. No doubt he can provide more info to anyone who's
interested.
