Date: Wed, 15 Feb 2006 11:05:06 -0500

Dear List,

Just wanted to let you know about a nice event coming up in Boston for those
interested. For more info, you can visit www.soundencounters.info

Sound Encounters 2006 is an intensive performance workshop exploring 20th
and 21st century music from June 15-18, 2006 at the New England Conservatory
in Boston. The seminar will open June 15 with a faculty concert featuring
the music of Augusta Read Thomas, Jason Eckardt and Michael Finnissy.
Participants will receive intensive coachings and private lessons with
members of the faculty on selected solo and chamber music repertoire
culminating in two student concerts on Sunday, June 18, 2006.

The repertoire will encompass a broad range of contemporary chamber and solo
music with special emphasis on the works of Augusta Read Thomas, who will
offer a Friday evening lecture in addition to coachings on her music
throughout the weekend. Selected students may have the opportunity to
premiere some of Thomas's newest works. Suggested works will be listed on
the website, but additional suggestions from participants accepted into the
workshop are also welcomed.

Violinists, violists, cellists, pianists, clarinetists and flutists may
apply as individuals or as pre-formed ensembles comprised of any combination
of the aforementioned instruments. String quartets, woodwind quintets and
piano trios are also encouraged to apply.

Auditors are invited for any or all of the workshops, with special
encouragement given to composers, who will have an opportunity to share a
meal and informal discussion with Augusta Read Thomas. Auditors may also be
performers who only wish to observe and not participate in the workshops. If
time permits, auditors may also sign up for private lessons with the faculty
at NEC's current studio rate.

Faculty include:
Mario Caroli, flute / piccolo
Ariadne Daskalakis, violin
Scott Kluksdahl, cello
Marilyn Nonken, piano
Michael Norsworthy, clarinet / bass clarinet
Carol Rodland, viola
Augusta Read Thomas, composer in residence

Michael Norsworthy
