There was a recent thread about a similar problem someone was having with
Encore, I think. It's a font problem. Depending on what caused it, you may
need to use the Finale installer to re-install only the fonts or add the
fonts from wherever the installer left them to the system font list using
the Windows font installer. The problem is that either the font file has
been damaged or it isn't where Windows knows to look for it.

You might also make sure nothing happened to the settings within Finale that
control which font is being used for noteheads - in the recent versions of
Finale you can control the default font for pretty much everything on the
screen separately. A mis-placed mouse click could cause the noteheads to
suddenly be showing up in Wingdings or, for that matter Times New Roman with
very strange results.
