Hi Daniel,

I also am from Houston and have some experience using a German
mouthpiece with my Wurlitzer clarinet.

It sounds like you are not wanting to spend a fortune on a mouthpiece
and German mouthpieces, even Vandoren, are more expensive generally
speaking.

I think the suggestion to try Vandoren may be your best bet. Woodwind
and Brasswind carries the Vandoren German facing in three different tip
openings. You can buy them on line, try them, and then return them if
they don't work for you for just a restocking fee.

You can buy directly from Zinner (I have, but in person), but you are
going to spend more money and take a chance that they mouthpiece will or
will not work well on your instrument. I doubt that Zinner will take it
back if it doesn't work, but they may be willing to adjust it at no
charge, but you pay for mailing cost.=20

Here is another company that I have done business with from Nuremburg,
Germany. Alexander Willscher . They makes both reeds (French and German)
and mouthpieces. You can order online and they will ship to you here in
Houston. I have ordered reeds from them and they are quite nice people
to deal with. I have also visited them in person.

You also need to keep in mind that you will need to use German reeds on
a German mouthpiece. You don't necessarily have to use string. Most all
German mouthpiece now will work with a standard ligature as well. When
trying German reeds, you may find that you will need to drop down 1/2
strength depending on the facing on the mouthpiece.

I hope this is of some help.

Hi list,

I recently acquired an old-ish Oehler system clarinet that I'd like to
give a try. I've always wanted to see what it was like playing the
Oehler system without having to spend the small fortune that new German
instruments cost.

However it doesn't have a mouthpiece, and I don't really want to buy a
Vandoren. I was thinking of buying a Zinner blank and just having
someone put a facing on it, or do it myself. But Weiner Music has
stopped carrying the German blank and only has the Model A.

Does anyone know any other importer that carries Zinner's German models?

Does Zinner sell direct to individuals only buying one or two
mouthpieces?

Many thanks,
Daniel Stover
