Practicing scales is one of the best ways of training your fingers and brain
the patterns needed to play music generally . . . after a while, playing a
piece with 5 sharps or flats in the key signature becomes a lot easier. Same
way with practicing arpeggios, thirds, fourths, etc., or left-hand exercises.
There are a ton of books out there that have a fun go at scales. Go to
your local music store and look around.
