Superglue was the substance of choice when, after experiencing slight
response delays during a performance of the Debussy P.R.on my 35+-year-old
R-13, I discovered a hairline crack running from the top of the top joint
through two trill key holes. I dribbled a bead of glue along the crack,
then, after plugging all holes, sucking it through the sidewall and into the
bore! (Yeah, I was grossed out by the fact that the crack went all the way
through...). After the glue dried, I was able to smooth the resultant bead
inside the bore; on the outside, I was able to render the bead virtually
invisible by carefully filing and sanding. A few years later when Bill
Brannen was overhauling the horn, he dressed the bore with a reamer of his
choice and pronounced the crack repair to be "like cast-iron." To this day,
the horn seals as it did after both Scotty and Brannen overhauls.

Moral of the story: Superglue works!
