I never had a high opinion of the Rolling Stones, not even in the 60's, when
I was young. I also was not really a Beatles fan. But then again, who am I
to judge? Lots of people think Marian Weber and Frans Bauer are the very
best artists in this country, even though in my opinion all they try to
achieve is that as many people as possible will enjoy their music, buy their
cd's, and make them rich.

I don't blame them, as they probably are sincere in their trial to please
people (I cannot look into their mind and read that they are very commercial
for the sake of making lots of money). They do produce a lot of tear
jerkers. Can I blame the people who are sincerely moved by them, and condemn
their music? NO!

Didn't Weber write some terribly very commercial tear jerkers for our
beloved instruments? He wrote his Konzertstücke opus 113 and 114 for
clarinet, bassethorn and piano, but what are they else then oversentimental,
even in the romantic view? Yet I like, not to say: love them.

So why condemn the Rolling Stones?

The only thing I can say about them is, that they got stuck somewhere in the
60's or early 70's with their music; when I recently saw them in TV I was
strongly reminded of a period that I do not consider as a great period in
music, despite personalities like the Beatles, Buddy Holly, Fats Domino,
Peter Schat etc.

Yet you cannot deny the succes of MTV, TMF and similar TV stations has its
origin in their way of physically being part of their music: they started
the moving around (mainly making sexually related movements that are so
popular now in TV clips).

Ciao
