Just for balance, we should cut the Stones a little slack.

They probably think themselves pathetic as well, and they should have all
just retired to their estates, but the money is so good, they can't resist
the temptation.
And of course, being on the receiving end of thunderous shouts of joy and
applause, might be a better way of spending one's time than watching TV and
other mundane parts of life.

Originally, I wasn't objecting to the fact that their music was played over
and over. This isn't a comparison to "music". Rock and Roll is/was an
expression of youthful exuberance, and that's where it should probably
stay - with youth.

I enjoy watching singers from the past. But there's a genuine sadness
because those times are gone. But the contrived physicality of Mick's
"dance" performance just didn't sell me.

I don't want to see Eminem 40 years from now hip-hopping to "Slim Shady."
Although as a living museum (like the Stones), it might have some
sentimental interest. I can listen to Tony Bennet often because he doesn't
try to pretend he's young and he doesn't hop around the stage shaking his
ass. He sings with heart and I guess that's what I missed in Mick's
performance. Heart! All the moves were there. I just couldn't "believe"
in it. It was all too quick, too contrived, too unspontaneous. Praise the
Lord and Amen!
