Isn't life strange, <Rommel> was the name meine vater gave me at my
christening, und yah, I was baptised a Roman Catholic, but meine muter was
eine Jude.

Und I have decided to return to the faith of my mother and not that of my
father, who by the way converted himself from Anglicanism to the R.C.'s -- I
was actually the first one in my family to be born and baptized a R.C. But
no one else was, except that is my Jewish Mother's mother, see her Father
was a Jew from Posen, and her mother was a R.C. from Bittenberg.

And some of you out may know that Jewish-ness follows matrilineal descent,
and even my Rabbi tells me that, but my mother's maiden name is Weiss, and
that is pretty Jewish, but then again many Jews have the surname of Miller
too. And on Seinfeld, didn't George have the Sefardic surname of Costanza?
And even Seinfeld could be considered Sefard when push comes to shove.

But in the Reform and Reconstructionist world a Jew of conscience is a Jew
regardless of his or her background, it is a matter of ethical conviction
and a turning of the heart and mind toward a higher principle. And I see my
life's work not only to be to play Klezmer really well, but to integrate the
Orthodox siddur (prayer book) and orthodox thought into the "liberal" Jewish
(Reform and Reconstructionist) Movements. To become more Torah centered
than ego-centric, and to be humanitarian and altuistic rather than being
humanistic or professing that humanism is the ultimate good.

For unlike Seinfeld, I cannot deny the existence and very real presence of a
G-D in this Universe, and the very existence of the universe expanding into
nothing, or nothingness is enough reason to cause me to believe, for what
nothing is there beyond the nothing, or emptiness of space, and what space
could space be expanding into?

And only God knows if Schrodinger's Cat really did have kitten's for that
box can never and will never be opened in theoretical physics for fear of
what it may reveal. Quantum Mechanics are boggling to the mind, and yet some
still contend that cold fusion is a possibility given the principles of
those very same mechanics. Look at how random codes found in the Bible can
be found to have prediced world catastrophes in the past, but how can they
predict future events when we lack the foresight to know what the future
will bring?

That my friends is the beauty of these "codes" and sequences in such things
as the Torah and elsewhere. I dare say the when Hofstadter wrote is epic
tome "Godel, Ecsher, Bach: An Eternal Golden Braid" he was attempting to
show his readers the same things that the writers of "The DiVinci Code" and
"The Bible Code" are.

And yet take the complexity of a Bach contata, or concerto for example and
the depth of recitative Bach employed in either. I am certain that you
could discover, as Hofstadter did similar codes and messages to indicate the
Bach was more than just a great composer, he was a Metaphysical Mystic!

And I do think Bach was more than just a great composer, that he was
sublime, and I wish I could have been a fly on the wall of his study for
just one afternoon while he composed a Brandenburg Concerti or one of the
Suites for Klarinette.
