I've been doing my own corking and padding for around 20 years and I
have a Buffet R-13 which is a bit of a mess, so I called a trusted
repairman today for a complete recork and repad job. It's about time, I think.

My cork glue of choice during the past several years has been epoxy
and a really kludgey use of rubber bands to hold the cork on the
tenons in place until the epoxy sets. It has worked fine, and I've
never had a problem with the cork coming loose as long as the
residual grease was first removed with alcohol, but the middle joint
has become a little wobbly and it is time for a professional job. I
can certainly afford it, so why not? It will be a joy to play that
thing into retirement with the confidence that a good job has been done.

Meanwhile, got out my Penzel-Mueller (the corks and pads on which I
have also done for about the same length of time) and I LOVE it. It
either just flat-out plays and sounds better than the Buffet or the
pads on the Buffet are "in concert" showing their age and need to be
replaced completely.
