Ann,
Unless this soprano is REAL good, avoid the Kupferman. It's very
dissonant and also challenging. In terms of just cl. & sop. (no piano),
the Vaughn-Williams and the Jacob have been my favorites for years.
Also good is the Seiber. I know nothing about any of the others.
Naturally, the Schubert "Der Hirt..." is by far the best thing written
(with the Mpzart close behind). I played the Argento and LOVED it. It's
hard but very worth it. I can also highly recommend the Sargon
"Patterns..." and Rorem's "Ariel", tho its subject matter is quite
depressing - it's about Sylvia Plath's suicidal thoughts.
