Subj: [kl] 'old' pitch question
Date: Sun, 22 Jan 2006 07:58:43 -0500

I have an old simple system clarinet dated approx 1862 - 1875. I am trying
to work out what pitch it is and I'm wondering whether anyone can help me
please. I can 'play' some notes mainly from C middle of stave to high D to
ledger lines above the stave.

I think it may be a C clarinet in old pitch A = 415 as when I play a C and a
G with a tuner it registers very close to correct pitch.

Wehn I try sharp or high pitch A = 452 it is way off for example when I play
a C it registers a VERY flat B and G a very flat F#.

I realise this is a very crude way of working it out but don't know another
way so if anyone can enlighten me it would be much appreciated.

The measurements of the clarinet are 22.25" without mouthpiece and 25" with
mouthpiece.

Many thanks,
Lorraine
