Sorry I couldn't answer sooner myself; I've played this a number of
times, but my pianist (naturally) has my piano score and I just caught
up with her today. FWIW, the G. Schirmer edition (where it's included
with some other works, can't remember the title of the volume -
"Masterworks for Clarinet"?) has it with the Eb as well. I agree with
Tony Pay's reasoning, and in any case the total agreement of 3
editions makes one pretty confident that Schumann wanted it this way.
