I am personally acquainted with Tom Zappe and have played his
mouthpiece. It is much too open for my taste, but you sure can play loud
on it. On the other hand, I currently play on one of his tenor sax
mouthpieces, which is a modified Otto Link hard rubber. Extremely
responsive, rich chocolaty sound, and more projection than my metal Link
New York chamber, yet it plays all the way down to ppp without effort. I
hand-picked mine from about 20 he had at his house/shop.

If you have to mic a saxophone, the rest of the band is TOO LOUD!
